Some licensing examples

A shareware developer wants to use the voices for a tutorial video to educate customers about his new product. This is neither personal nor educational use. The shareware developer should contact us for a professional and commercial publishing license.

A library wants to use the voices to create audiobooks that blind users can loan together with an iPod. This is neither personal nor educational use. The library must contact us for a professional and commercial publishing license.

An institute for blind people wants to use the voices to make royalty free books available in audio format for download. This is neither personal nor educational use. The institute must contact us for a professional and commercial publishing license.

A museum wants to use the voices to create a guided audio-visual tour. Because a museum is not an official educational institution such as a school, college or university, the museum must contact us for a professional and commercial publishing license.

1. Single user license

This is the basic license when you purchase Infovox iVox or GhostReader. This license only permits personal use of the voices and generated audio files. Commercial and professional use is prohibited. Publication of personal content for hobby purposes on the web is allowed as a form of personal use.

2. Household license

This license is only for use and installation on computers at home. It is not for schools, organizations or companies. This license only permits personal use of the voices and generated audio files. Commercial and professional use is prohibited. Publication of personal content for hobby purposes on the web is allowed as a form of personal use.

3. Multi-seat license

This is the license when you purchase a multi-seat Infovox iVox or GhostReader license. This license permits use of the voices and generated audio files on the number of computers a seat is purchased for and up to 3 iPods or other playback devices per computer. For publishing non-personal, non-hobby content on the web or use of audio files on larger numbers of playback devices an educational publishing license is needed for educational institutions or a professional and commercial publishing license is needed for all other users.

4. Professional and commercial use and publishing license

Applies to all uses that do not fall under personal or educational use and publishing licenses. Not included with any of the standard licenses. Must be purchased separately. Educational market: details on available licenses and associated conditions

Terms and conditions may be changed at any time without advance notice.

These licenses are only available for official educational institutions such as schools, colleges and universities.

Some educational licensing examples

A French teacher wants to use the voices as part of a podcast about medieval music. If this is a hobby project not commissioned by the school or done in the school’s time, a standard single user license is all that is required. If this is part of school-related work a Teacher Kit should be purchased as it includes an educational publishing license. The required credits for use of the voices must in that case be included.

A geography teacher wants to use the voices in a video about volcanoes that he is making for use with the 24 video iPods that the school purchased for use in the classroom. In this case a Teacher Kit license is required as it permits use of audio files on multiple playback devices. This license also allows the teacher to put the video online if he includes the required credits for use of the voices.

A PC-based school wants to buy a Mac and iPods and use the voices to create multimedia content for playback on the iPods. The teachers can share that Mac and get a single Teacher Kit if they will use the material on 50 or fewer iPods. If they also want to deploy the material on the 200 PCs the school has they should buy 3 extra Educational audio use and publishing licenses.

A school wants to use the voices to create audio material for their 1 to 1 iPod student program. A Teacher Kit or educational audio use and publishing license should be purchased for each teacher that will make content for the iPods. For example, if 4 teachers share a single Mac to create the content one Teacher Kit is needed and 3 educational audio use and publishing licenses. Discounts apply for large numbers of teachers.

A school wants to use GhostReader with a mobile Mac lab so that students can use the software for language learning. A classroom license can be purchased for this purpose.

A college wants to use Infovox iVox in their Mac lab so that students can use the software for creating multimedia content on the 45 computers in the lab. A classroom license can be purchased for this purpose. If the students want to put the result of their work online an educational publishing license should be purchased as well for each teacher using the lab. Alternatively, instead of the classroom license a school license could be purchased, which already includes 6 educational publishing licenses. The required credits for use of the voices should be included for any material put online.

The English and French departments in a university want to use the voices for creating podcasts that students can listen to on their own iPods. Each professor should purchase a Teacher Kit. Or, if each department shares a single Mac to create the content two Teacher Kits plus a number of educational audio use and publishing licenses.

A school already owns a school license for GhostReader and now wants to create an audio version of the school newsletter that is made available to parents on the internet. This is not allowed because the content is not educational and the use is not primarily for the classroom or teaching. The school must contact us for a professional and commercial publishing license.

This license includes and educational publishing license (see below for requirements and restrictions).

This is the license when you purchase a multi-seat Infovox iVox or GhostReader license. This license permits use of the voices and generated audio files on the number of computers a seat is purchased for and up to 3 iPods or other playback devices per computers. For publishing on the web an educational publishing license is needed.

7. Classroom license

This is the license when you purchase an Infovox iVox or GhostReader classroom license. This license permits use of the voices and generated audio files on up to 50 computers in a single classroom or mobile lab and up to 150 iPods or other playback devices. For more computers, multiple classroom licenses may be purchased. For more playback devices multiple educational audio use and publishing licenses should be purchased. For publishing on the web an educational publishing license is needed.

This is the license when you purchase an Infovox iVox or GhostReader school license. This license permits use of the voices and generated audio files on up to 150 (M) or 1000 (L) computers in a single educational organization (such as a school, a school district, a college or a university) and with the included 6 educational audio use and publishing license up to 300 iPods or other playback devices. For more computers, multiple licenses may be purchased. For more playback devices multiple educational audio use and publishing licenses should be purchased.

A single license is included with each Infovox iVox & GhostReader Teacher Kit and six licenses are included with the Infovox iVox and GhostReader school licenses. Available as an optionally purchased item for educational users of single user, multi-seat or classroom Infovox iVox or GhostReader licenses.
